College and Career

Finding the right college for yourself or your child is of utmost importance as you or your child enter the young adult phase of life where all of your major learning is yet to come!

The following websites are helpful in college searching, and I also highly recommend the book,
Fiske's Guide to Colleges for anyone searching for a private school anywhere in the United States. It has great tips on majors, financial cost, and comparison colleges (in case you don't get into your first choice.)
If you are a resident of Indiana, you may also want to check out a website for Independent Colleges in Indiana:
Indiana Colleges

The two official websites for ACT and SAT preparation and registration are:
http://www.collegeboard.com/

These sites are helpful in college searching and test prep:
http://www.testprep.com/
http://www.petersons.com/

You can sign up to take the tests online, receive scores, and take practice tests as well as search for college information.
You can take the tests starting junior year in high school.  Your student may sign up to take the test before their junior year, but scores will not count towards college admission requirements until junior and senior year.

FINANCIAL AID
EVERY senior planning on attending college MUST fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
Make SURE you do not get pulled into a scam by accidentally going to a false website such as www.fafsa.com. Make sure you pay attention to the filing deadlines for your state.
Other financial aid search sites include: http://www.finaid.org/

You may be surprised at what kind of financial aid packages private colleges sometimes give to try to recruit top academic students in order to compete with state schools.

Here is a link to a high school guidance director's website in Indiana. She has posted some helpful websites on her blog. http://counselorcommentary.blogspot.com/
